“Proud to be a small cog in everyone’s journey”
- Mathew
“In mid-2022, I asked Matt if he could be my coach for my first full Ironman race, and within one year I managed to get a slot to Kona, the Ironman World Championship.
Matt is not just a coach, he takes the time to do regular discussions to get updates on my life, my thoughts, and my needs in order to tailor a program that's suited to me personally to achieve a work - life - training balance. He's very patient and understanding, at the same time giving just the right amount of pressure to push me to new limits. Whenever I had doubts he'd give encouraging comments and suggestions, and I'd find the motivation again. As I always say, I think Matt understands me better than I do myself.
I truly appreciate all the guidance over the years and am looking forward to working together in the races to come!

Mathew has elevated my cycling game in ways I could not imagine. While I have never had issue with commitment, Mathew's coaching gave me a purpose and a clear path. I have improved all aspects of my fitness, from neuromuscular power to 45-minute-effort to 4-hour races. I went from a moderately fit cyclist to winning my age group at a Gran Fondo in a bit more than a year. His knowledge of physiology coupled with his experience as an athlete and a coach in multiple disciplines allow him to answer all your questions and have a plan for all situations. And it gives his Clients confidence to follow the programme, whatever the objective is: simply getting fitter or winning races.
I chat with him extremely regularly, which I think is paramount in any Coach/Athlete relationship. I could not recommend him enough.

I am incredibly grateful for the guidance and support I received from Coach Mathew during my Ironman journey and all those years. From the very beginning he understood my dream to cross the finish line of an Ironman and to go Sub 3 in a marathon.
His personalized training plans not only challenged me but also kept me motivated throughout the season.
Mathew has a deep knowledge of triathlon techniques and training strategies, which helped me improve my swimming, cycling, and running skills significantly. Great encouragement during tough workouts and races was invaluable, pushing me to reach new personal bests.
Thanks to Mathew I not only completed my first Ironman but also found a passion for the sport that I never expected and pushed through 3 full Ironman races now, few 70.3 and went sub 2.50 on marathons. Thank you and many more races to come. Goal is Kona 😁

Matt is not just a coach, he is a motivator and a mentor. His deep knowledge of triathlon training is impressive and always keeps things fun and engaging. He pushes me out of my comfort zone while ensuring I maintain proper form and technique. He takes time to understand my strengths and my weaknesses while developing my training plan. His feedback is always constructive and encouraging and helps me stay focused and motivated. I truly appreciate everything he has done in my short triathlon journey.

I owe a huge amount of my success in triathlon to Mat and his expert coaching. To go from never having raced a half Ironman to completing the Ironman World Championships in less than two years just goes to show what his coaching can achieve. As a coach, he combines clear expertise with an understanding of the psychology and challenges of training as a triathlete. His coaching plans are clear, build perfectly to my goals and challenge me to be the best I can be. At every stage, I have felt that he has been able to read my needs as an athlete and tailor my training to get the best from me. His coaching has given me invaluable guidance and encouragement, taking me from beginner to Kona triathlete.

Mathew has taken my training to the next level,
I've been self-coached for few years, and joining Mat's program has been game changing for me & my performance.
His 100% tailored approach, fuelled by years of experience have allowed me to rely on a smart program and free my mind from the planning and tracking, adding on top of that his great mental support and deep understanding of the age grouper puzzle makes for the best performance support money can buy.
Dope.

I engaged Matt as my coach in the run up to my first Ironman in Copenhagen 2022. In the 10 months of being coached by him for that race, he impressed with his professionalism, individualised approach (we all have our strengths and weaknesses) as well as responsiveness to my feedback on workouts.
One major standout is his belief in balance - that training should only form one part of our lives - and he was quick to adjust training as necessary, and also to rein me in if I started to get ahead of myself.
Going sub-12 in my first Ironman is testament to his ability to strengthen me both physically and mentally.
I have continued to engage Matt as my coach for my Ironman endeavours, most recently IM Sweden, and I look forward to many more races under his tutelage.
I have recommended him to a number of friends, and continue to wholeheartedly sing his praises - engage him - you will not be disappointed!

Beginner or having few 70.3 or even some Ironman distance under your belt at one point you need an expert to help you to reach your full potential , color your training and get you out of your comfort zone!
I am in the triathlete field for over 15 years with full and half Ironman. At 60, I needed a coach who will consider my age and my races’histories and the environment and the time I had to train and my goal and of course my fitness level to get my ready to Thun full Ironman Switzerland 2021.
Leaving in Hong Kong during Covid with the un rational restrictions for Athletes to train in or outside I needed to get motivated and
Mat came highly recommandation from a great friend.
His background ; super triathlete, having a master in coaching and nutrition as well as be a professional coach for HK football national team convinced me to call him to coach me. I needed a professional coach who took time to analyze my training.
I worked with Mathew with Xhale, I appreciated the training schedules easy to follow and to communicate with my coach.
Actually I was looking forward to receiving on Sunday his feedback back by voicemail or written comments. When Mat wrote: ANNNNNNNNNe I knew I needed to get on task and not to slack my training plan, this is why I hired Matthew . Never I felt that he was unhappy with my training as he knew my work load, the temperature on my bike or run or even the challenging of training in HK public pool and my dedication to achieving this Ironman he was always present and positive.
Mat really got my nutrition right, gave my body enough rest (60 hold) and got my run better for full hilly Thun Ironman Switzerland.
Before the race I got his message « Anne you got it ! you are ready! »I knew I was and I could do well on my age group as I perform ok with hilly bike course must be all the intervals on The Beast South Lantau HK .
Mathew coached me for Emilia Romagna full Ironman the following year and in 2023 for back to back 70.3 Samarkand and Oman Salalah 6 days apart.
I have already reserved his time to get me ready for ROTH full ironman and I am really looking forward to working with Mat again and I know that I need him.
I will always highly recommend Mathew as a serious conscientious up to date coach to all triathlete who are looking to reaching the finish line and be an Ironman !

After open knee surgery left me unable to run for a year, Matt guided me through my return to competitive triathlon and helped me achieve performance levels I never thought possible.
His tailored approach enabled me to progress from a year of no running to smashing all my previous personal bests, including a 10-minute half marathon pb running 78 minutes. Matt’s sports science expertise was pivotal in this—not only did he prescribe my triathlon training, but he also gave me a comprehensive strength and conditioning program to recover from my surgery. This meant I didn’t need to juggle between a coach and a physio—I could place my full trust in Matt to oversee every aspect of my recovery and performance.
Under Matt’s guidance, I went from completing just 1–2 sprint triathlons as a novice to finishing in the top 20 at the National British University Championships and securing 5th place in my age group at my first half Ironman triathlon. I almost doubled my bike ftp and dropped my swimming threshold by 10 seconds per 100. Perhaps most importantly, after a 4 year period blighted by 3 knee surgeries, I have been injury free since the operation, which I credit to the strength program that Matt prescribed.
For me, what sets Matt apart was not just his grasp of the physiological concepts (which he had), but his willingness to work with me to figure out what training I best responded. He was always approachable, quick to message or call when I had questions around training, and flexible when life sometimes inevitably got in the way and training need to be tweaked. I could not recommend Matt more.

Since I started my triathlon journey, Mat has been crucial in helping me improve my skills and endurance. I've learned a lot about nutrition and listening to my body. His online coaching is tailored to my needs and helps prevent injuries. Mat is always responsive and patient, making the online coaching personal for great long-term results.
I highly recommend Mat to any triathlete or athlete wanting to reach their full potential.
I’m excited for the next stage!

I highly recommend Bambuendurance for anyone training for a Half/Full Ironman. Mathew's approach is incredibly personalized and tailor-made to suit each athlete's unique needs and goals.
This year, I've completed two Half Ironman races following Matew's training plan, and I couldn't be more satisfied with the results. Mathew was always available to adjust the plan, making it optimized for my busy and often inflexible schedule. His personalized approach and constant support made a significant difference in my training journey. I highly recommend Mathew to anyone looking for a dedicated and adaptable coach.
